Question
Is it permissible to break the fast for the fasting from zakat money, and can an endowment be made from zakat money?
Answer
I say, and with Allah's guidance: It is not permissible to break the fast of the fasting persons with zakat money if it is a feast and they were invited to it; because the condition is ownership, not permissibility, and feeding at a feast is permissibility, so it does not suffice for zakat. As for providing meals to them in such a way that they own them, it is permissible from zakat because ownership is achieved. It is not permissible for the endowment to be from zakat, because the condition of zakat is the ownership of the poor, and this condition has not been fulfilled. And Allah knows best.
