Paying Zakat for the Deceased
A woman’s husband passed away, and he had an amount of zakat due, but she does not know its value. His daughter has taken on the sponsorship of an orphan on behalf of her father. Is it permissible to count the money she pays to the orphan as part of her father's zakat?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It is recommended for children to pay the zakat debt on behalf of their father, and it is permissible to give it for the sponsorship of an orphan; because it is a transfer of ownership to a poor person, so it is allowed, and God knows best.
