Notification of Hadi and What is Its Ruling

Question
What is the meaning of the notification of Hadi and what is its ruling?
Answer
Notification: It is the act of piercing the skin of the sacrificial animal or stabbing it until blood appears from it, and it is disliked when there is fear of the wound spreading. If there is no fear of spreading, it is good for camels but not for cattle and sheep. However, the act of piercing does not replace the verbal declaration (talbiyah) like the act of marking the sacrificial animal while leading it; as narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prayed the noon prayer at Dhul-Hulayfah, then he called for his she-camel and pierced it on the right side of its hump, and blood flowed, and he marked it with two sandals." [In Sahih Muslim 2: 912, and Sahih Ibn Hibban 9: 314, and Sunan Al-Darimi 2: 91, and Sunan Abu Dawood 2: 146]. See: Lubab Al-Manasik, pp. 117-118.
