Question
How accurate is it to say that Wahhabism is Khawarij, and that the ideas and fatwas of Ibn Taymiyyah are a basis for takfiri thought?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: They are counted among the Khawarij, according to the conclusion of the scholars among the Hanafis, which is Ibn Abidin in his "Radd al-Muhtar" in the chapter on rebels. The takfiris rely on much of the words of Ibn Taymiyyah, even though he was a knowledgeable and virtuous scholar, but they pick out the odd issues from him and build their deviant ideology upon them, and God knows best.
