Question
I used to set aside a monthly amount from my salary for the poor and needy. Then I sold a piece of land and deposited the money in the bank. Is it permissible for me to change the intention of giving the monthly amount to the intention of Zakat instead of charity, so that I finish the amount of Zakat before the year is completed on the money I deposited in the bank?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: It is permissible to intend zakat instead of charity with the money you give, although it is preferable for you not to abandon what you have initiated and intended in giving charity, as it is a great good. If you combine it with paying zakat, the goodness for you increases, and this is what will benefit you on the Day of Judgment. And God knows best.
