Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is disliked to insult others due to God's prohibition against insulting the idols of non-Muslims, so that they do not use it as an excuse to insult God. Allah, the Exalted, said: {And do not insult those they invoke besides Allah, lest they insult Allah in enmity without knowledge. Thus We have made pleasing to every nation its work. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them of what they used to do.} [Al-An'am: 108] The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) prohibited insulting non-Muslims because it is of no benefit and has a negative effect on the Muslim by instilling the trait of meanness in him. Muhammad ibn Ali al-Baqir said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade insulting the dead of Badr from the polytheists, saying: Do not insult these people, for nothing of what you say will reach them, and you harm the living. Indeed, vulgarity is meanness." This was narrated by Ibn Abi Dunya as a disconnected narration, and its narrators are trustworthy. Al-Nasa'i also narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) with a sound chain: "A man insulted the father of Abbas who was in the pre-Islamic era, and he slapped him." In it, it is stated: "Do not insult our dead, lest you harm our living," as mentioned in Mughni al-Asfar 3: 122. And Allah knows best.
