Question
My father's inheritance after his death, which the children intend to divide at this moment, amounts to 350,000 shekels. The father left behind a wife, two sons, and five daughters. How can this amount be divided according to Islamic law?
Answer
I say, and with God's success, the inheritance is divided as follows: the wife receives one-eighth (1/8) which is 9, the two sons receive the remainder as the male heirs which is 14 = 28, and the daughters as heirs receive 7 = 35. If the amount of the inheritance remaining after the father's death is 350,000, it is distributed as follows: the wife receives 43,750, the two sons receive 136,111.11, and the daughters receive 170,138.89. Thus, the wife receives one-eighth, and the remaining money is divided among the sons and daughters with the male receiving the share of two females. And God knows best.
