Question
If the fasting person takes an injection during the day of Ramadan?
Answer
Fasting is not invalidated, whether the injection is subcutaneous, like an insulin shot, or intramuscular, or intravenous, or in any part of the outer body; because such an injection does not reach the interior through the openings considered legally – such as the mouth, nose, ear, anus, female genitalia, surgery in the head, surgery in the abdomen, and a hole if it leads to the considered interior – it only reaches through the pores, which are not considered openings, as stated in the Islamic fatwas from the Egyptian Fatwa House (1: 90), fatwa of the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Sheikh Muhammad Bekhit Al-Mut'i.
