How to Wash the Deceased

Question
How is the deceased washed, especially if they are a relative like a sister or daughter, and how is the white garment ('thawb') placed on them, and who are the relatives that should be with them?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: He is wrapped in a shroud and his bed is perfumed, then he is brought in, stripped of his clothes, and his private parts are covered. Then he is washed without rinsing his mouth or inhaling water, then he is poured over with boiled sidr water, then his head is washed with soap, then his left and right sides are washed, then pressure is applied to his abdomen to expel what is inside him, then he sits and wipes his abdomen to expel what is inside and wipes his front and back without needing to wash again, then he is perfumed and his places of prostration are wiped with camphor, then he is shrouded, the minimum for a man is a loincloth and a wrap, and for a woman, a loincloth, a wrap, and a headscarf. It is permissible for the relatives of the deceased and others to be present during the washing as needed, and God knows best.
