Giving Charity with the Price of the Found Item While Keeping It
I found a table on the beach without an owner, and I cannot identify its owner because the visitors come from far places. What should I do? Should I give charity with its price and keep it?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If it is possible to identify it for a period of time, then it must be done until you believe that its owner will not return. After that, you can give it as charity to yourself if you are poor or to others if you are rich; because it is a found item, and this is the ruling on found items. And God knows best.
