Question
A woman was pregnant and followed her pregnancy with a male doctor, as her pregnancy was initially weak and her insurance only covers male doctors who are closest to her residence. Additionally, she was initially prohibited from movement, so she decided to continue with him. However, at the time of delivery, she planned to give birth with a female doctor due to the need for examination of private parts. In the fifth month, the fetus died, coinciding with the lockdown period in the provinces due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and she could only go out with a permit from her doctor specifically. Fearing for the pregnant woman's health from the delay, to avoid blood poisoning if the dead fetus did not pass, she underwent the procedure with another doctor, and it was a natural birth. The woman is now pregnant for the second time and is following her case with the same doctor because her pregnancy needs monitoring, and he is aware of her first case and all her tests. She has the option to change and give birth with a female doctor, but on the other hand, she wishes to continue with the same doctor because he knows her health situation better than anyone else. Then, she plans to change the hospital and doctor at the end of the pregnancy. Is it permissible according to Islamic law for her to continue with him and give birth, or should she do as the law states that a female doctor is preferable, then a female doctor from the People of the Book, then a Muslim doctor, and so on?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It is forbidden for you to be examined by a male doctor who sees your private parts when there are female doctors available, and there is no excuse for what you mentioned. You must repent to God Almighty for what has passed, and you should go to a female doctor to complete the examinations. The continuation of the pregnancy is in the hands of God and His power, not in the hands of the doctor. And God knows best.
