Question
What is the ruling on exerting oneself in voluntary fasting, such as on the white days and the fasts of Monday and Thursday? By exerting oneself, it is meant that a person is physically exhausted and tired for various reasons, to the extent that they have suffered from a fever, yet they insist on fasting outside of the obligatory fasts. Is this permissible?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is recommended to fast voluntary fasts and to increase them if it does not cause harm to him; if fasting harms him, it is disliked. He should verify the harm with the statements of specialists, and God knows best.
