Question
Is there evidence from the Quran regarding the menstruating woman not fasting? Because some have started to say that since a menstruating woman is capable of fasting, why doesn't she fast like a traveler?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: This is a comparison with a difference, as menstruation is a celestial condition that prevents performance, while travel is an acquired condition that does not prevent performance. However, fasting is permitted as a relief from the ruling. There is a text that prohibits a menstruating woman from fasting, as reported by Lady Aisha (may God be pleased with her): she said: "We would experience that, and we were commanded to make up the fast, but we were not commanded to make up the prayer." This is agreed upon. There is a consensus on the prohibition of a woman fasting and its invalidity, which is the strongest of the legal evidence, and God knows best.
