Evidence for the Obligation of Reciting in Sunnah Prayers
Is there evidence for reciting Al-Fatiha and a short Surah in Sunnah prayers? Is there an opinion that they are prayed with Al-Fatiha only, or that the first two Rak'ahs include Al-Fatiha and a Surah, while the rest include only Al-Fatiha like the obligatory prayers?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: This is a matter agreed upon among the schools of thought, that it is required to recite Al-Fatiha and a surah in all units of voluntary prayer, and the exception is established only in the obligatory prayer, and God knows best.
