The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Learn your lineages so that you can maintain your ties of kinship, for maintaining the ties of kinship brings love among family, increases wealth, and prolongs life — meaning an increase in lifespan —" in Al-Tirmidhi 4: 351. He also said: "The true maintainer of ties is not the one who reciprocates, but the one who, when his ties are severed, maintains them" in Al-Tirmidhi 4: 316, and it is authenticated.
