Question
I read Ibn Abidin's message 'Manhal al-Waridin' in the 'Bihar al-Fayd' under a Sheikh in Syria, and when I studied with you now, I found a significant difference in the rulings on menstruation. What is the reason for this? The time of the habit according to Ibn Abidin is considered, and one who sees blood before the time of her habit does not leave prayer at all except in special cases. My point is, what I read from Ibn Abidin has been amended in this time, or are there other opinions in the school?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is preferable to rely on what the texts of the school and their explanations state regarding the rules of menstruation, as they are much easier than what is found in the Barakawi's message and Ibn Abidin's commentary; because applying them to what is in it is extremely difficult. Therefore, it is better to avoid the details in it due to the confusion it contains. Those who commit to teaching and applying it lead people into great doubt, and it causes a clear trial for women because of that. And God knows best.
