Determination to Fast
I have made a determination in myself to fast for a whole month if a certain event occurs, and that event has occurred. Is it obligatory for me to fast since I did not swear an oath or make a vow?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If there is no verbal expression with the tongue and commitment to the statement, the vow is not required; mere determination and intention without verbal expression are not sufficient, and God knows best.
