Question
My father has been deceased for ten years, and I wish to perform Umrah for him, but I am unable to travel to Mecca. Is it permissible to delegate my cousin to perform Umrah for my father, as he is committed and has performed Hajj and Umrah? What is the ruling, what is required of me to do, and will my gift be accepted for my father?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is permissible for you to appoint someone to perform Umrah on his behalf, provided that they are trustworthy and of good character. All acts of worship can be accepted on behalf of the deceased, with God's permission, and God knows best.
