Question
Four months before my husband passed away, may God have mercy on him, he was traveling because he has a business abroad that requires him to be away for months. I am used to managing our affairs here in Oman, including buying and selling. I bought a car and registered it in my name instead of an old car that was registered in my name with his consent. The purchase of the car was with his approval, but it is on installments. Are the remaining installments of the car a debt on me or on my husband to be deducted from the estate?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: If the husband truly owned the car and gifted it to you, then the remaining installments are part of the estate. If it is registered in your name only for safekeeping, then the car belongs to the heirs, and the installments are on the estate. And God knows best.
