Dealing with the Found Item
A woman found a piece of gold a long time ago and did not report it. She sold it and spent the money. Now she regrets it and wants to donate the amount, either by putting it in a mosque or a Quran house. Is this correct?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It was necessary to introduce it if she wanted to take it, and then after taking it and introducing it, she can give it as charity on behalf of its owner to the poor. If she is poor, she can give it as charity to herself. And because she did not do that, she now has to give it as charity for any good cause on behalf of its owner, and God knows best.
