Cutting Off Relatives
What is the ruling on family members and siblings who cut off ties with their sister, not visiting her or inquiring about her, even by phone? What about a father who cuts off contact with his daughter, while she is trying to communicate with him by phone? Is it permissible for a husband to prevent his wife from visiting her family because they cause her problems with him?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It is forbidden for family and siblings to sever their ties of kinship, and they are committing a major sin by doing so. Nevertheless, their sister should continue to maintain her relationship and kindness towards them, seeking the pleasure of God Almighty. It is not permissible for her husband to prevent her from visiting her family for any reason, as visiting is her right, and she can go to visit her family without her husband's permission.
