Question
A woman has her period for 3 or 4 days, and after she had an IUD inserted, it became 5 days, then she stops for two or three days, and then continues for fifteen days. Should she pray or not?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The minimum duration of menstruation is three days and the maximum is ten days. Anything beyond ten days is considered irregular bleeding (istihada). The woman experiencing istihada is treated like a pure woman; she can fast and pray, but she must perform ablution for each prayer time. And God knows best.
