Question
What is the ruling on saying: 'If God wills' after the prayer?
Answer
I say, and with Allah's success: It was narrated in the hadith from Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "Let none of you say: O Allah, forgive me if You will, O Allah, have mercy on me if You will. Rather, let him be firm in his supplication; for Allah does what He wills, and there is no compulsion upon Him." (Narrated by Al-Bukhari: [6339], and Muslim: [2679]). Al-Nawawi said: "Being firm in asking means being earnest in seeking it, and being resolute without weakness in the request, and not conditional upon His will or similar." And Allah knows best.
