Changing Religion for the Purpose of Obtaining Residency

Question
I am a Muslim - thank God - but due to harsh circumstances, I have changed my religion only on paper with the government; in order to obtain residency, and I cannot return to my country because I have no home or anything there. Am I considered outside of Islam or still a Muslim? Because Allah looks at the heart, and my heart is Muslim, and I pray and fulfill all my obligations, thank God. What should I do now?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: What you have done is a sin and a great transgression, we ask that He forgives you. There is no justification for abandoning the religion, as it is our salvation in this world and the Hereafter. You must take all means to adhere to your religion and act upon it, and return from the action you have taken. And God knows best.
