Calculating Debt Against Expenses
My ex-husband had a debt with me that he did not pay. In return, he left his son with me, whom I raised and spent on, including the costs of marriage, which exceeded the amount of the debt by a lot. Does this mean the debt is canceled?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The maintenance of the son is obligatory on the father, so he is required to pay for his son's maintenance. If the debt equals the debt owed to you, then he has no debt owed to you. If it is less than his maintenance, it must be returned to him. And God knows best.
