Breastfeeding for the Child

Question
Is it obligatory for a mother to breastfeed her child? Is the mother's milk considered the husband's property, and does she need to seek his permission if she breastfeeds someone other than her child? What does it mean that what is prohibited from breastfeeding is prohibited from lineage?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: It is a religious duty for the mother to breastfeed her child if there is no hindrance to that, and it is preferable for her to seek the husband's permission in the case of breastfeeding another child other than her own; because he will be a foster father to him. The meaning of what is prohibited through breastfeeding is that it is prohibited through lineage, so the child becomes affiliated with the family of the mother who breastfed him, making her husband a father to him and her children siblings to him, as well as all their relatives. And God knows best.
