Benefits of Reciting Ayat al-Kursi

Question
What are the benefits of reciting Ayat al-Kursi?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The Ayat al-Kursi has a great significance, and it has been authentically reported from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that it is the best verse in the Book of Allah. Among its benefits, as mentioned in the Hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him) narrated by Abu Umamah, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except death." Narrated by al-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban. And from Salamah ibn Wardah, he said: "Anas ibn Malik, the companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), told him that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked a man from his companions, saying: O so-and-so, have you married? He said: No, and I do not have anything to marry with. He said: 'Do you not have {Say: He is Allah, [who is] One} [Al-Ikhlas: 1]? He said: Yes. He said: A quarter of the Quran... He said: Do you not have Ayat al-Kursi? He said: Yes. He said: A quarter of the Quran. He said: Marry, marry, marry three times." Narrated by al-Tirmidhi in brief. And from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "In Surah Al-Baqarah, there is a verse that is the chief of the verses of the Quran; it is not recited in a house where there is a devil except that he leaves it: Ayat al-Kursi." Narrated by al-Hakim, and al-Tirmidhi narrated it with the wording: "Everything has a peak, and the peak of the Quran is Surah Al-Baqarah, and in it is a verse that is the chief of the verses of the Quran: Ayat al-Kursi." And from Asma bint Yazid ibn al-Sakan, she said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say about these two verses: {Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence} and {Alif, Lam, Meem. Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence}: "In them is the name of Allah, the Greatest." Narrated by Ahmad. Al-Bukhari mentioned the virtue of Ayat al-Kursi with his chain of narration from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) entrusted me with guarding the Zakat of Ramadan, and a man came to me and started to scoop up food. I caught him and said: I will take you to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He said: Let me go, for I am in need and I have dependents and I have a great need. So I let him go. The next morning, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: O Abu Hurairah, what happened to your captive last night? I said: O Messenger of Allah, he complained of a great need and dependents, so I had mercy on him and let him go. He said: Indeed, he has lied to you, and he will return. I knew he would return because of the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that he would return, so I watched for him. He came again, scooping up food, so I caught him and said: I will take you to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He said: Let me go, for I am in need and I have dependents, I will not return. I had mercy on him and let him go. The next morning, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to me: O Abu Hurairah, what happened to your captive last night? I said: O Messenger of Allah, he complained of a need and dependents, so I had mercy on him and let him go. He said: Indeed, he has lied to you, and he will return. I watched for him a third time, and he came again scooping up food. I caught him and said: I will take you to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and this is the last of three times you claim you will not return, yet you do return. He said: Let me teach you words that will benefit you from Allah. I said: What are they? He said: When you go to your bed, recite Ayat al-Kursi: {Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence} until you finish the verse, for you will always have a guardian from Allah over you, and no devil will come near you until you wake up. So I let him go. The next morning, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to me: What happened to your captive last night? I said: O Messenger of Allah, he claimed that he would teach me words that would benefit me from Allah, so I let him go. He said: What are they? I said: He told me: When you go to your bed, recite Ayat al-Kursi from the beginning until you finish the verse: {Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence}. He told me: You will always have a guardian from Allah over you, and no devil will come near you until you wake up - and they were the most eager of people for good - the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Indeed, he spoke the truth to you, although he is a liar. Do you know who you were speaking to for three nights, O Abu Hurairah? I said: No. He said: That was a devil." And Allah knows best.
