Before Paying Zakat
If someone donates one-third of their saved wealth at the completion of the lunar year, should they calculate Zakat on the total amount before the donation or on what remains after the donation?
Answer
: I say, and with God's success: He must pay the zakat due on his wealth; because zakat is different from charity, and charity does not exempt one from zakat, and God knows best.
