Advancing the Zakat al-Fitr Before Its Time of Obligation

Question
Is it permissible to advance the Zakat al-Fitr before its time of obligation?
Answer
If the charity is hastened on the day of Eid al-Fitr, it is permissible in general according to the correct opinion; for Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, commanded us that the Zakat al-Fitr should be paid before the people go out to prayer. Ibn Umar used to pay it before that, one or two days in advance, as mentioned in Sunan Abu Dawood 2: 111, and it is not commented upon. See: Al-Tamheed 14: 326. And because if the obligation is not established, the cause of the obligation has been found, which is the head of the family who is responsible for it, and hastening after the cause has been established is permissible, just as hastening the Zakat is permissible. See: Bada'i al-Sana'i 2: 74, Al-Tahbiin 1: 311, and Al-Durr al-Mukhtar 1: 78.
