Abortion of the fetus under four months
My friend is pregnant and the pregnancy is forty days old. She went to the doctor and he told her that the fetus has no heartbeat, and she wants to terminate it. Is there any prohibition in this, and are there any justifications for it?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: Abortion is permissible for a valid reason if the fetus has not reached four months, and there is no expiation for it. Among the valid reasons for abortion before four months are: illness, having many children, the corruption of the times, or poverty. And God knows best.
