A Father's Words About His Son in His Absence

Question
Is a parent's talk about their son, mentioning his negatives or criticizing him, considered backbiting or gossip if this talk occurs within the family in front of the mother or siblings without the son in question being present?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If the intention behind that is to consult about him for the purpose of reform, it is not considered backbiting; but if it is otherwise, it is considered backbiting. And God knows best.
