Zakat on Livestock

Question
Is Zakat due on livestock such as camels, cattle, and sheep?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The livestock that is fed for most of the year is not subject to zakat, and it is the opposite of the grazing livestock that grazes for most of the year. This is unless it is for trade; if it is for trade, it is subject to the zakat of goods. See: Omdah Al-Ri'ayah 1: 275, and God knows best.
