Question
I bought land with the intention of selling it after an unspecified period to profit from it. What is the ruling on zakat for it?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It becomes commercial goods if you bought it to sell whenever the opportunity arises, even directly. I do not think this condition is met in your case; because you desire to sell in the future, it does not qualify as commercial goods, and zakat is not obligatory on it. And God knows best.
