Zakat on Inherited Land
I inherited land from my father six years ago; of course, the land is barren. A week ago, I sold it due to the circumstances we faced because of Corona. Am I required to pay zakat, and for how many years am I required to pay zakat? Because my religious teacher tells me that I must pay for six years.
Answer
I say, and with God's help: You are not obligated to pay zakat for the previous years; because the land was not for trade, it was only an inheritance, and the money you received as its price is to be zakat with your other wealth when the year has passed for zakat for you, and God knows best.
