The Ruling on Adhering to One School of Thought

Question
I follow the Shafi'i school while being ignorant or forgetful of some rulings, and Allah is the Helper and Guide. Can I benefit from your lessons if I remain on the Shafi'i school, or is there a difference? Is it necessary for me to adhere to only one school?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: it is best for you to adhere to one school of thought throughout your life; so that your actions are valid and the rulings become clear to you. If you find someone to teach you the Shafi'i school, you may adhere to it; and if you find someone to teach you the Hanafi school, you should adhere to it. All of them are schools of Ahl al-Sunnah, and whoever holds onto one of them will be saved. And God knows best.
