Question
What is the difference between washing and wiping in ablution?
Answer
Washing: It is the flowing of the liquid - water - over the area, and in ablution, it refers to the face, hands, and feet. Wiping: It is the act of touching, and it applies to the head. Therefore, if one washes the parts of their ablution without letting the water flow, such as using it like oil, it is not permissible according to the apparent narration. Similarly, if one performs ablution with snow and nothing drips from it, it is not permissible. However, if two or three drops drip, it is permissible due to the presence of flow.
