Answer
The answer:
I say, and with God's success: After completing the ablution, one should say: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger"; for Umar may Allah be pleased with him, said that the Prophet peace be upon him said: "None of you performs ablution and does it well, then says: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, except that the eight gates of Paradise are opened for him, and he may enter from whichever he wishes," in Sahih Muslim 1: 209, and Musnad Ahmad 1/19, and Sheikh Shu'ayb said: "Authentic due to other sources," and in Ahmad 4/150, Sheikh Shu'ayb said: "The hadith is authentic, except for the statement: 'Then he raised his gaze to the sky.'" And from Umar may Allah be pleased with him, it is narrated with the wording: "Whoever performs ablution well, then says: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner for Him, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, O Allah, make me among those who repent, and make me among the purified, eight gates of Paradise are opened for him, and he may enter from whichever he wishes," in Sunan al-Tirmidhi 1/78, and al-Tirmidhi said: "This hadith has a disrupted chain, and there is not much that is authentic from the Prophet peace be upon him on this matter," and in the Al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, 4/140. And in the Musannaf of Abdul Razzaq, 1/186, it is reported from Ali may Allah be pleased with him. And in the Musannaf of Ibn Abi Shaybah: 6/114, it is reported from Hudhayfah may Allah be pleased with him. And one should also say after completing the ablution: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You, there is no god but You, I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance." From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri may Allah be pleased with him, it is narrated: "... And whoever performs ablution, then says: Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You, there is no god but You, I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance, is written on a tablet, then sealed, and it will not be broken until the Day of Resurrection," in Al-Mustadrak 1/752, and Al-Hakim said: "This hadith is authentic, according to the conditions of Muslim, and they did not narrate it." And in the Al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, 2/123, Al-Tabarani said: "This hadith has not been narrated as a raised hadith from Shu'bah except by Yahya ibn Kathir." See: Tabyin al-Haqaiq 1: 6-7, Majma' al-Anhar 1: 16, Bada'i' al-Sana'i' 1: 23-24, and the acceptable comments on Al-Hadiyyah al-Alaiyyah p. 25, and Allah knows best.
