Supplication for the Prophet (peace be upon him) after the Adhan and sending blessings upon him

Question
What is the ruling on supplicating for the Prophet (peace be upon him) after the Adhan and sending blessings upon him?
Answer

It is recommended to supplicate for the Prophet (peace be upon him) after the Adhan and to send blessings upon him. Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "When you hear the Mu'adhdhin, say what he says, then send blessings upon me, for whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him tenfold. Then ask Allah to grant me Al-Wasilah, for it is a position in Paradise that is not befitting for anyone except a servant of Allah, and I hope to be that one. Whoever asks for Al-Wasilah for me, my intercession will be permissible for him." (Sahih Muslim 1: 288, Sunan At-Tirmidhi 5: 586). Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever says when he hears the call to prayer: 'O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad Al-Wasilah and superiority, and raise him to the praised position that You have promised,' my intercession will be permissible for him on the Day of Resurrection." (Sahih Al-Bukhari 1: 222). In another narration: "Indeed, You do not break promises." (Sunan Al-Bayhaqi Al-Kubra 1: 410). See: Bada'i Al-Sana'i 1: 205.
