Ruling on Zakat for Saved Money
The questioner says: They have an amount of money as a 'end of service gratuity', and they had started procedures to build a house with this amount, then circumstances occurred that halted the construction. In the month of 4, a year passed while they had the intention to build. Is Zakat obligatory on this amount?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The zakat on wealth is obligatory if a year has passed, and one should not pay attention to the intention that it is for building, marriage, or anything else. And God knows best.
