Question
What is the ruling for someone who removes their Khuff after wiping over them?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: It is necessary for him to wipe over his socks; because wiping over the jarmuqain is not the same as wiping over the socks, unlike wiping over a sock with two layers, which is one that connects two skins and is made in such a way that one is the outer layer and the other is the lining. If one layer is removed, he does not need to wipe over what is underneath; because the two layers, due to their connection, are considered as one thing. Wiping over one layer is like wiping over both; thus, removing one does not affect the validity of the wiping. However, the jarmuq and the sock are two distinct, separate items, and wiping over one does not count as wiping over the other. If the jarmuqain are removed, the socks remain without purification, so it is necessary to redo the wiping over them. Refer to: 'Umdat al-Ri'ayah 1: 111, and 'Al-Tabyin' 1: 52, and 'Sharh al-Wiqayah' p. 115, and 'Nihayat al-Murad' p. 387, and God knows best.
