Paying Zakat in Kind
Is it permissible to buy a food package with the zakat due on a person and give it to the poor during Ramadan? This means that a person has a certain amount of money due as zakat because they have reached the nisab and a year has passed. If they give part of this money as a food package for the poor during Ramadan, is that permissible?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: It is permissible to pay zakat in cash or in the value of anything that can be benefited from, including food supplies and others. Therefore, paying zakat in the form of packages is permissible, and God knows best.
