Oath of Divorce
My husband swore an oath of divorce that I would not speak to my brother, not even a single word, and I have not spoken to him for three years; I have tried to get a fatwa but he refuses. Now, if I speak to my brother, does the oath of divorce take effect, and what is the ruling?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: Before you speak with your brother, your husband should consult a religious scholar about that, and it is possible for virtuous people to intervene to make that happen. And God knows best.
