Question
What is the Sunnah regarding inhalation in ablution and what is its limit?
Answer
I say, and with God's guidance: It is recommended to perform the nasal inhalation three times with fresh water each time. The limit of nasal inhalation is that the water reaches the marīn (the soft part of the nose), and it is recommended to exaggerate it by exceeding the marīn; as he (peace be upon him) said: "Exaggerate in nasal inhalation unless you are fasting," in Sunan Abu Dawood 1: 82, and Sunan Al-Tirmidhi 3: 155, which he authenticated, and Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 1: 78. See: Opening the Door of Care 1: 37, Explanation of Al-Wiqayah p. 80, and Umdat Al-Ri'ayah 1: 63, and God knows best.
