Inability to Fulfill a Vow

Question
I vowed to offer a sacrifice for the sake of Allah and set aside a gold piece for it. I needed the piece for my expenses, and I cannot afford a sacrifice, nor do I have any source of income or a supporter. Should I fast?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The vow remains a debt on your conscience, and whenever it becomes possible for you to pay it, you should do so. You can pay the value of the sacrifice for the sake of Allah, even in installments. Whenever you have an amount available, you can pay it as part of the vow, and fasting does not suffice in its place. And Allah knows best.
