Question
A woman owns (95) grams of gold of 21 karats, a bar of (30) grams of 24 karats, a house for living, and a house and shop that serve as a source of income for living, and she does not have any cash. What is required of her in terms of Zakat?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: The conditions for zakat are that the amount reaches the nisab, a year has passed on it, and it is surplus beyond basic needs. So, gather what you own of gold, then calculate its value in dinars and combine it with what is surplus from the rent of the house and shop beyond their basic needs, and give (2.5%) of the total money, and God knows best.
