Breaking an Oath
I swore to my friend that she wouldn't wash the dishes, but my friend, in turn, swore that she would wash them, and she actually did wash them. What are the consequences of my oath? Do I have to make an expiation because I swore an oath against my friend and went against it?
Answer
I say, and with God's help: If you swore intending the oath on your friend and your friend contradicted what you swore, you are required to make expiation, which is to feed ten needy people, and it is estimated at twenty dinars, and God knows best.
