Is buying gold in installments halal or haram?

Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Qayyim have detailed discussions on this, and they lean towards the permissibility of selling crafted gold on credit. Al-Qaradawi discussed this in his book 'Fiqh al-Zakat' and chose the opinion of Ibn Taymiyyah. The discussion is not about the hadiths of equality and immediate exchange in the session, but rather about treating crafted gold 'jewelry' as the same kind as cash.
