Question
What is meant by the washing machine and what is its ruling?
Answer
I say, and with God's success: The washing water: it is the water used in purification, and it is divided into two sections: First: The washing water of real impurity: it is the water used to remove real impurity from clothing, the body, or a place. Its ruling: it is impure, whether it is separated as changed or unchanged, and whether it is separated from a pure or impure place; because the ruling of the washing water is the ruling of the place before the water was applied to it. Second: The washing water of legal impurity: it is the water used to remove a state of ritual impurity, or the water used with the intention of drawing closer to God: the water becomes used by one of two matters: either by removing the state of ritual impurity, whether with intention or without intention, or with the intention of drawing closer to God even if one is not in a state of ritual impurity. Its ruling: it is pure but does not purify from ritual impurity, so it is permissible to remove real impurity from clothing and the body with it, but it is not permissible to perform ablution or bathing with it, and the water becomes used as soon as it separates from the body according to the correct opinion; because the ruling of use falls before separation for the necessity of purification — that is, if we considered it used before separation, it would not be permissible to purify with it — and there is no necessity after its separation.
