Evidence of the Legitimacy of I'tikaf

Question
What are the evidences for the legitimacy of I'tikaf?
Answer

I say, and with God's success: First: from the Holy Quran: Allah, Glorified and Exalted, said: {And do not approach them while you are in I'tikaf in the mosques} Al-Baqarah: 187, so the addition to the mosques dedicated to closeness and the abandonment of permissible intimacy for it is evidence that I'tikaf is an act of devotion.

Second: from the Sunnah: Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, reported: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to perform I'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan" in Sahih Muslim 2: 830. And Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to perform I'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan" in Sahih Bukhari 2: 715, and Sahih Muslim 2: 830. Imam Al-Zuhri, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "It is astonishing how people abandoned I'tikaf while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would do it and leave it, and he did not abandon I'tikaf until he passed away."

Third: from reason: I'tikaf is a way to empty the heart from worldly matters, to surrender oneself to its Creator, to take refuge in a strong fortress, and to remain close to the House of Allah, the Exalted. Ata said: "The example of the one in I'tikaf is like a man who has a need with a great person, so he sits at their door and says: I will not leave until my need is fulfilled, and the one in I'tikaf sits in the House of Allah, the Exalted, and says: I will not leave until I am forgiven, so it is one of the noblest deeds if done sincerely," refer to: Al-Mabsut 3: 115, Al-Tabyin 1: 348, Al-Mabsut 3: 115, and Fath Al-Bari 4: 285, and Allah knows best.
